
Sydneysiders have been told by the Bureau of Meteorology to brace themselves for a severe thunderstorm tonight, with winds reaching over 102 kilometers per hour in some regions.
Blackouts are spreading throughout Sydney and Illawarra amid severe thunderstorms that are hitting the city, with reports of hail and winds reaching over 102kph in Bowral.
Residents throughout Sydney, particularly in Greater Wollongong and the Blue Mountains are expected to be hit particularly hard and have been warned accordingly.
The thunderstorms first arose on the BoM’s weather radar around 5.20pm, and are heading northeast toward Hornsby, Parramatta, Mona Vale and Richmond over the next 30 minutes.
As a result of the storms, #sydneystorm is trending on Twitter, with one poster saying “loudest crack of thunder I think I’ve ever heard.”
