A new Swiss initiative proposes that each citizen receive 7500 Swiss Francs, the equivalent of $11724 (AUD).
As per Switzerland’s direct democracy rules, If the initiative can receive 100,000 signatures, the Swiss electorate will put it to a vote.
If successful, the scheme will be financed by Switzerland’s national bank, from which each and every Swiss citizen will receive payment – including children.
The creatively named ‘Helicopter Money Initiative’ is designed to benefit the country by bolstering the economy:
“Exports, interest rates, inflation and investment would rise”
Such benefits will not come cheap however, with an expected price-tag of approximately 45 Billion Swiss Francs.
