Covid-19 Vulnerability Linked To These Particular Genes

A group of researchers out of the UK have discovered that people who experience severe symptoms of Covid-19 may have certain genes in common.

The group, led by Kenneth Baillie of the University of Edinburgh, studied more than 2200 Covid-19 patients, and identified certain gene variants that were common to those that experienced severe symptoms whilst infected with the virus.

Several genetic markers have now been linked to Covid-19 vulnerability, the most prominent being a stretch of genes found in chromosome 3 which seem to have strong relevance to the body’s ability to combat the virus.

Researchers are now gathering a database of these Covid-19 ‘risk genes’ in hopes of developing effective treatment based off this newfound knowledge.
